History surrounding us
The first Westbury was opened in 1927 in New York City by the polo playing Phipps family. Later in 1955 The Westbury London was opened, becoming the first 5 star American hotel in London and one of the finest hotels in Mayfair.
In 1999, Cola Holdings acquired The Westbury Mayfair and set in motion some radical changes, such as a multi-million pound refurbishment to all of its 225 bedrooms of which 64 are suites.
The Westbury has played host to a wide range of VIP guests, such as TRH Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Duchess of York, HH Prince Dimitri of Russia, HH Princess Olga, Countess Rosslyn, President Mikhail Gorbachev, Carla Bruni Sarkozy, and repeat guests such as Andreas and Vivienne Westwood, Gillian Anderson, Anthony Head, Martha Fiennes, Bob Geldof, Nicky Haslam, Brian Ferry, Martina Navratilova, Brian Friedman, pop acts Girls Aloud, Pixie Lott and JLS.
The Westbury has also staged the fashion shows of Anna Roza, Jean Paul Gaultier and has hosted The Old Vics theatrical phenomenon The Twenty Four Hour Plays Celebrity Gala, as well as prime-time TV shows. The Westbury has also returned to its Polo heritage by being a part of prestigious, high profile Polo events such as Cartier 25th International Day. Additionally, the Westbury launched its own tournament The Westbury Shield in 2009.
